Summer is a time to enjoy the great outdoors! Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills, MD, a non-profit organization situated on 116 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows is an ideal place to take the whole family. Recent programs have included "Butterflies of Summer" and "Ferns, Trees, and Wildflowers of Gunpowder Falls." There are also hiking trails and 65 animal residents that number 24 different species. Indoors, their state-of-the-art "green" building models good environmentalism with the use of local materials, energy-saving practices, and waste-reduction strategies.
Irvine Nature Center is devoted to promoting environmental consciousness among children and adults and helping us translate our concern for Earth into actions that help preserve our natural world, and create a healthier planet!
Irvine Nature Center provides more than 20,000 children and adults with 500-plus program sessions annually. Irvine has emerged as a leader among Maryland's environmental education centers, and incorporates into its interactive exhibit hall and educational programming a unique and comprehensive focus on the natural science of the Piedmont.
