Kathy Sullivan studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Academy of Art, the University of Louisville, and has an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. The Art Institute of Chicago awarded her the Recognition Merit Scholarship in 2007. Her main source of growth comes from the mentorship of three contemporary masters: Susanna Coffey, Jane Rosen and Susan Howe. Through their guidance, Kathy strives to find the perfect balance between the rigidity of education and the spontaneity of pure expression. “It’s a difficult tightrope to walk but I’m dedicated to keeping the balance between these two polarities in my work. It’s what initially attracted people to my work and I don’t want to forget that.”
