Little Bowtiques, as it was originally called, was founded in 1983 by a woman named Janie, and inspired by her daughter Dori. Having given her daughter such an unusual name, she searched high and low for personalized hair barrettes. Unable to find them, she began creating them herself. What started as one beaded 'Dori' barrette eventually evolved into thousands, which soon became a must-have item for many little girls in the 80's. Like her mother Janie, Dori set out to make bows for friends and local children's boutiques.
